Plot layout was designed to capture best portion of a degraded occurrence of a mesic/wet-mesic prairie community, but inclusion of some exotics and native weeds was unavoidable. Vegetation is characterized by patchy clumps of warm-season grasses scattered throughout a low matrix of grasses, the principal species of which appears to be Setaria geniculata. The hydrology of this stand is uncertain; at the end of a very dry growing season, there is no evidence of hydric soils that would indicate a perennially wetland habitat.
Although this patch of mesic / wet-mesic prairie occupies > 2.5 ha, the actual habitat supporting vegetation composed of warm-season grasses is much smaller.
Dark brown, moist clay loam, with abundant sod grass roots; soil forms small (1-2 mm) clods

Stand was grazed prior to acquisition by The Nature Conservancy. Stewardship control of exotic species - chiefly Elaeagnus umbellata and Rosa multiflora - began in August 1999. Stand was prescribed burned in January 2002.
